FDA Amends Four Core FSMA Rules
Changes to human foods, animal foods, produce safety and foreign supplier verification program.

On Sept. 29, FDA issued four proposed supplemental rules amending four previously proposed rules to implement core provisions of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA):

  • Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food (HARPC)
  • Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Animal Food (Animal HARPC)
  • Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP) for Importers of Food for Humans and Animals
  • Standards for the Growing, Harvesting, Packing, and Holding of Produce for Human Consumption (“Produce Safety proposed rule”).

Three Peanut Corp. Defendants Found Guilty

It took five years, but three people connected with the former Peanut Corp. of America (PCA) were convicted of various criminal charges for intentionally allowing peanut butter tainted with salmonella into the food supply, apparently killing nine people and sickening 714 people in 43 states.
